Good Morning!

Yesterday I gave you a short recap of my weekend at the BLEND retreat in the beautiful mountains of Utah!  Today let’s get into more detail shall we?!

FRIDAY

We first arrived at the beautiful Hyatt and we were all in shock at how beautiful everything was!  We had a 3 bedroom, 4 bathroom suite that was slept 7 girls!  The kitchen was nicer than mine at home!  We were so pleased by the rooms and all the hotel staff that were so accommodating.

Soon after checking into our room we went over and got registered!  First things first, NAME TAGS!  There were like 100 bloggers there so we definitely needed name tags to remember everyone’s names, and blog names!

4 of us met at the airport and arrived at the hotel around 1pm.

Me with  Ashley from CupcakesNCrunches, Kate at QuarterCenturySouthernLiving, and De from CookingForTheOtherHalf.   We also had 3 other roomates that I will tell you about!

As I mentioned before, We also got TONS of SWAG from Vega, Chobani, Nunaturals, Silk, Bobs Red Milland the list goes ON and ON and ON!  What is SWAG you ask?  All this awesomeness that was given to us is swag, and yes that is an official term.   I got my first yoga mat too.

I am going to take all this fun stuff on my Florida trip.  Traveling in style.

I was blown away by how generous all of these sponsors were!

After unpacking all of our swag we went over to snack break hosted Attune Foods and Justin’s Nut Butter.

After snack break we headed back to our rooms to get prepped for the cocktail hour, sponsored by Silk.

There was an awesome photo booth that we hit up a couple times!

Then came our 4 course dinner buffet.  But first, our hosts gave us a little run down of what we would be eating 🙂  These girls are great.  I also stole this picture from Lindsay!  She has a great camera. I need it!

I was more excited for dessert really!

I tried the berry tart and the Chobani panna cotta.  They both tasted delicious!

Then off to bed we went to get ready for our early morning bootcamp hosted by GPP Fitness!

be TOUGH crossfit

My sister and I are working on our kipping pull ups at Crossfit.  I have only been doing crossfit for a couple of months, and my sister did 3 real kipping pull ups the other day!  I can do maybe one, so we are working hard on them!

Tips for Kipping Pull Up Success:

First, you must learn how to Kip

Kipping is whole-body, athletic, and demands coordination and agility. It is plyometric, requires flexibility of the shoulders, allows for rapid cycle time, and in totality represents an essential, unique, and powerful core to extremity motor recruitment pattern.

Once you have the Kip down, you can start trying the Kipping Pull Up!

# 1:  I think the main thing is to PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE  –  You will never get it right if you don’t do this 🙂

# 2:  Be aggressive and don’t give up!  It is not easy 🙂

# 3:  Practice side by side with someone who knows how to do them correctly!

Last week, I had about 5 people in my ear telling me how to do them and it was just confusing me.  Eventually one girl came over and gave us some tips and practiced with us side by side.  It helped out a lot. 

I start with the smallest band possible and try to string them together.  I think the hardest part will be to do this without a band!  Let me remind you, doing them with a band is NOT a bad thing!  You are still gaining strength this way! 

Once you feel comfortable with a small band, try to do them without it 🙂  In a WOD with lots of pull ups- I would still use a band.

I think it takes a lot of time and work to get the pull up in a WOD without a band, but I will get there one day if I practice!

 

Any crossfiters out there have any special crossfit tips for doing kipping pull ups?
