Is Paleo the New Crave these Days or what??

Since I have joined Crossfit I have been into Paleo dishes a lot more.  I knew about the Paleo Plan before but never really followed it.  I can’t say I follow it now either but I do look for more recipes to try!

How does the Paleo Diet Work?

Paleo diets are based on a simple rule—if the cavemen didn’t eat it, you shouldn’t either.  Foods today are full of processed ingredients and are carbohydrate obsessed!  The “caveman” diet focuses on eating animal protein and plants like back in the paleolithic period over 10,000 years ago!

Dairy, cereal, grains, legumes, refined sugars and processed foods were not part of our ancestral menu.

So What Should We Be Eating?

  • Fruits
  • Veggies
  • Lean Meats
  • Seafood
  • Nuts and Seeds
  • Healthy Fats:  Such as Avocado that I love!!

Like I said I do not follow this completely- I still like my carbs such as Ezekial Bread, Brown Rice, Oats etc…They give me strength to make it through my hectic life!

I have tried Paleo bread- But It was just “okay”.

I also love me some greek yogurt! YUM.

I see so many recipes that use low carb flour’s like coconut flour an almond flour so I started buying them and making different foods with them too!  Here are some of the treats I have made:

Paleo English Muffin

Paleo Sweet Potato Brownies

And Yesterday I made these for breakfast.  These were so good I actually thought about making them again for lunch!

Paleo Protein Pancakes

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 scoop (or 2 tbsp) vanilla protein powder
  • 1 egg white
  • Splash of almond milk
  • 1 stevia packet (use this in moderation on the paleo diet)
  • Water
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp almond flour

Directions:

Heat griddle.  Mix all ingredients until batter forms.  Add water in slowly until desired consistency forms.  Pour onto hot griddle and cook on each side for about 3-5 minutes.

You may need to turn down the heat to make sure the middle cooks completely without burning the outside!

I topped mine with strawberries, a scoop of natural almond butter and a little bit of syrup.  I used sugar free but feel free to use the real thing.  I try to stay away from artificial sweeteners, but today I gave in.   I am not perfect!

They turned out so fluffy and they were probably the best batch I’ve ever made, not to toot my own horn or anything!
